American Community Survey (ACS)
Data Source: U.S. Census Bureau
Topics: demographics, immigration, education, income, and more.
Geographic levels: national, state, counties, and cities.
Timeframe: 5-year estimates, plus 1-year estimates for areas with at least 65,000 people.
CDC Wonder: Mortality Data
Data Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Topics: includes both underlying causes of death (UCD) and multiple causes of death (MCD), with age-adjusted and crude rates.
Geographic levels: national, state, and counties.
Timeframe: Yearly, 1999 to 2016.
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)
Data Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Topics include health care access, prevention, chronic disease, unhealthy behaviors, and more.
Data granularity: By state, as well as by age, demographics, education, gender, and income.
Timeframe: Annually with some indicators reported biannually.
National Survey on Drug Use and Health
Data Source: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
Topics include mental health disorder prevalence, drug and alcohol usage rates, and perceptions about the dangers of drug and alcohol use.
Data granularity: by state, as well as age ranges (children, young adults, and adults 25 and over).
Timeframe: annual data, ranging from 2011 to 2016.
Occupational Employment Statistics
Data Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics
OES includes statistics on more than 800 occupations in every state.
Topics include annual estimates on total employment, mean and median wage, and associated percentile statistics.
OES data available by state; additional BLS data available at the national level.
